Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella

Former ensemble player Audrey Cardwell got her big showbiz break Tuesday night at the Smith Center for the Performing Arts premiere of Rodgers & Hammerstein’s musical “Cinderella” after being plucked from the background cast of peasants and townspeople to play the title role filling in for Paige Faure, who has taken a touring break.

Audrey captivates castmates, the orchestra and audience with her big-break performance. She is stunning in the transformations from trodden-down scullery maid into bridal princess in the treasured fairytale.

Luxor headliner Criss Angel (Cirque du Soleil’s “Believe”) would be impressed with the split-second magical costume changes from rags to high-fashion. The writers have updated the story with new lyrics and political humor to touch upon “income redistribution” in the kingdom.

Make sure you catch “Cinderella” just like the Prince did in its run here at the Smith Center through Sunday before it moves on to San Diego and Sacramento. It’s enchanting, romantic and spectacular, complete with a high-flying Fairy Godmother.

“Cinderella” is a timeless inspiration for young and old alike who want their dreams to come true.
